Shoplifting and obstruction. The paper does not know if the bond was posted.
The Athens Banner-Herald ran it on Oct. 24, 2025. Former tight end Arik Gilbert was arrested in Savannah the day before, on shoplifting and obstruction. Bond was set at $3,500. Ryne Dennis wrote that it was not known if the bond had been posted. He was at Savannah State by then. The school had not commented.
It was not the first one. In 2024, in Lincoln, he pleaded no contest after a burglary charge at a liquor and vape shop was amended to trespassing and criminal mischief. Two weeks later, in Lumpkin County, he was arrested again, this time for a smash-and-grab burglary and obstruction. The paper has the college line too. At Georgia in 2022 he caught two passes for 16 yards, one of them a 4-yard touchdown. At Savannah State in 2025 he had 19 catches for 258 yards and a score.
