Greer spent the week adding, not selling.
Love came Wednesday. McConkey came Friday. The first that left is in 2029.

Covered this league long enough to know Greer is usually right.

Greer is 3–4 and he just had the high score, and the calls he made were the calls of a team that still thinks the record is the lie. Wednesday night he took Jordan Love from Lucas. Friday he took Ladd McConkey. Nobody on his side of those deals was a player he was tired of. Chase, Jefferson, McCaffrey, and Pollard are all still there. He was buying into the season, not out of it.
Love is the cleaner one to explain and the stranger one to need. This is a one-quarterback league, and Greer already had Hurts. Love has been a weekly starter anyway. The first seven weeks were 20, 14, 19, 13, 25, 20, and 17, and he had another one on Thursday after the deal. The price, once you follow the second that left and came home, is Greer’s 2027 second. The 2029 second went to Lucas on Wednesday and came back today inside the McConkey trade. A second for a quarterback you do not have to start is a luxury. It is also not the luxury that empties the cupboard.
McConkey is the one that costs something you will remember. Greer’s 2029 first went to Lucas. Twenty-six points is the receiver’s year so far, and the receiving room did not have a hole you could see from the sidewalk. Chase and Jefferson have both had quieter seasons than their names, which is the generous way to read why another one was worth a first. The less generous way is that a 3–4 paid a future first for a player who has not had a week since September. Both can be true until Sunday says otherwise.
Week 8 is Nathan, who is 6–1 and just put up 125. A new quarterback and a new receiver do not play that game for him unless they are in the lineup, and neither one has to be. The rest of the year is still about getting from 3–4 into the six. He gave up a second and a far first to feel better about that climb. The roster that just scored 137 did not have to be torn up to do it.
