Mitchell paid for a back, and he took the questions with him.
Henry still has a job. Barkley and Lamar have to get healthy before the rest of the deal means anything.

Still talking about Hefner losing by 1.78.

John Mitchell wanted a running back, and Hefner was ready to stop pretending this was his year. That is the trade once you stop counting the lines. Henry goes to a 3–3 that has been short one. Barkley, Lamar, Deebo, and Young go with him, because Hefner was not going to keep a pile of unfinished seasons after he had agreed to sell the player who was finished and fine. Mitchell sends Herbert, Flowers, his 2027 first, his 2028 first, his 2029 first, and his 2027 second. A 2029 second comes back. It is a lot of future for one spot in the lineup, and the spot is the point.
Henry is the part you can explain without a speech. He has been the back you put in the lineup, in a league that still treats rushers as the expensive position and does not pay you for a catch. Hefner is 1–5. A player like that is either how you tell yourself the record is a lie, or how you get paid for admitting it isn’t. Hefner admitted it. He will feel the empty spot. He also kept Maye, who is the quarterback, and this is a one-quarterback league. Young was never taking that job from him. Herbert is a good player and, on the roster Hefner has left, a spare.
The rest of what Mitchell bought has to become something before the price sits right. Barkley has not had a year you would put on the table as proof. He is listed questionable. Lamar has been out of the last two weeks, and he is questionable too. Deebo is listed out, which means he is not helping anyone in week 7. Mitchell already had a quarterback he could start. He did not need Young, and he does not really need Herbert if Lamar is the plan. What he needed was Henry. He got Henry, and he got the wait that comes with the other three.
Those firsts get later if the wait ends the way he wants. Make the playoffs and you are picking in the back half of the round. Miss, and you handed a 1–5 a lottery-adjacent pick for a push that did not push. Flowers is the piece I would have had trouble including. He is the younger receiver in the deal, and he is leaving so a receiver who cannot play this week can arrive. Mitchell has spent the fall looking for a back with a job, and Bowers is still his tight end, so I understand the hunger. Hunger is not the same thing as a discount.
Hefner’s side is the cleaner one if you keep the record in the room. He sold the weekly answer, attached the players who have not been answers, and took a young receiver plus four picks off a roster that is trying to win now. The picks will not be as early as a seller draws them on a napkin. They are still a serious return for one sure back and a group of question marks. His own 2027 first was already gone, and it sits with a champion who cannot trade it back. This is him building a future he is allowed to touch. If Barkley and Lamar are themselves in November, Mitchell is the one who saw it early. On Wednesday he is a 3–3 who paid a full price for one back and a hope.
