A few guesses about the rest of the year.

Not the box score. Just where this room looks like it is headed.

Had Nathan first this week and isn’t looking for a reason to move him.

Sunday’s scores are the news. What follows is the desk guessing out loud about the rest of the season, and it is labeled that way so the two things don’t get mixed up.

Nathan still looks like the team you have to get through in January, even if London loses him tonight. He scored 137, then 134, then 143 before this week, and the rest of the roster already did its job on Sunday. One Monday night doesn’t retire a month like that.

Greer is the manager who should be nervous about a six-team playoff. He has not won a week, and 69 points is what it looked like when the famous names were supposed to carry him. Hurts, McCaffrey, and Chase are still a good roster if you only read the cheat sheet. They stop being a playoff roster if this is just what they do, and if the trade block stays a message that nobody answers.

Hefner’s backs look like a playoff room. He lost his opener to Morgan by less than two points, and now he is five up on Nathan with nothing left of his own to play. The 1–2 start was the schedule getting him early. It was not the running backs failing.

Fuss can get to December with Tyler Shough. He is at 134, and Shough is at zero only because the Saints play tonight. That hole is going to matter in some playoff week. It did not matter against Lucas. Sam Darnold had 13.3 on the bench, and the skill players won the week without either quarterback needing to be the story. October is not the month that problem shows up.
