Opinion·The tape

Three weeks on top, and the list is short.

Fuss has had the high score since week 2. The regular season had only done that twice.

Fuss has had the highest score in the league three weeks running. Week 2 was 148.68. Week 3 was 148.26. This week was 149.94. Nathan finished second every time, and the gap this week was twenty points. Thomas had the high score in week 1, at 154.1, so the streak does not go back to the opener. It is still three.

On the weekly scores we have, which start in 2019, the regular season has only done this twice before. Thomas did it in 2021, weeks 4 through 6, and those were not close. He scored 146.52, then 148.68, then 157.68. Greer had the high score in week 7 and it stopped. Fuss did it himself in 2022, weeks 5 through 7, and that one was hanging on by a finger. Week 6 was 107.08, a point and a half ahead of Greer. Week 7 was 123.56, about a point ahead of Nathan. Morgan scored 168 the next week, and that was the end of it.

Nobody on this tape has made it four regular-season weeks. Thomas also went weeks 12, 13, and 14 in 2020, at 165.88, 141.62, and 177.32, but that last number came in a playoff week, with eight teams in the field instead of ten. We don’t have the weekly scores from before 2019. What we do have says Fuss is in the middle of something this league almost never does, and the last time he did it, the next week belonged to somebody else.
